Wanderings… Shady Areas
The other day, I saw a former student of the Chennai Conservatoire.
She had told me she was coming to Barcelona and asked if we could meet. As the date approached, my emotions fluctuated: how was I going to feel, what was the point of seeing each other again nine years later… That morning, as a sad rain fell from the grey sky, I sat down in a luxury hotel armchair.
Faced with this student who had become a blossoming young woman, I felt instantly happy, as if transported to another place and time. Then the question came: what happened? What can be said after so many years… There are the proven facts, the hypotheses, and the shady areas where desires and demons lurk.
Above all, there is this nagging regret, barely mitigated by the many pleasures that followed. Why has nothing I’ve done since been able to heal the wound once and for all?
After struggling to put this feeling into words, I thought of a line heard in The After (Misan Harriman — 2023–18′). The photographer’s first short film deals with grief and healing. The story focuses on a man who is suffering and can’t seem to get over a tragic loss. His pain persists and deepens over time.
